Read |Proverbs 31|
This month we pause to honor the mothers of our faith. Read the assigned Scripture and then reflect on the life of a woman who lived up to the call of God on her life in such a way as to inspire our Be-Held Writers to love God too.
1 She is a proud woman, but in a humble way.
2 She can survive tough times and uncomfortable places, yet she enjoys the comforts of life, if presented to her honestly.
3 She is faithful to her husband, her children and her God.
4 She is not a rigid or demanding woman, yet she has expectations of her children and husband.
5 She cannot be bullied and does not allow her family to be bullied.
6 She helps her husband in the little and big things.
She quietly supports her children, relatives, friends and church.
7 She is held in high esteem by her colleagues and the children she has taught and counseled.
8 She does not Bible bash. Instead, she feeds the nutritionally deprived child next door; visits and befriends the depressed woman up the road; and takes in the student who has nowhere to stay.
9 She exercises her talents and produces the most creative gifts every-day: be it something cooked in the kitchen or something sewn or crafted by her fingers. She turns a wasteland of a yard into a beautiful garden retreat.
10 She teaches Sunday-School week in and week out.
11 She is beautiful inside and out and is adored by her husband, children and grandchildren.
12 She is a follower of Christ, and she is my mother.
For as long as I can remember, I have believed in Jesus Christ. I do not take for granted the gift that both my parents gave me – a foundation for Christian belief and living. As Beheld takes the time to give recognition to women who give witness to the Lord Jesus Christ, I could not be more proud to thank my mother for her Christian example and encouragement to me and to the service she has rendered to her family and to her Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ.
Above is a picture of my mum and I, when I was about 1 year old. In many ways I still feel like a little child when I am with my mum; as if I have not grown up despite my own grey hairs. It is perhaps because I am still nurtured and mothered when in her presence.
I have no excuse when I falter and give into temptations of mean-spiritedness and laziness, for I never saw them in her. I tell her, “Mum, if I could do half of what you did for the Lord, then maybe I will be told by Him, ‘Well done, you good and faithful servant’.”
I look forward to the many more years my family and siblings will enjoy my mother’s gifts; her nurture, advice, the stories she tells and the spiritual insight and wisdom she gives. I love you Mum!
