The Body: A Vision of Wellness

The prophet Habakkuk has opened his mouth to question God. He wonders about the the ways in which a good God enacts justice. He is puzzled because, all around him, the wicked seem to prosper. God answers his appointed man, who though curious about how God will balance the scales, is confident in the character of the One who enacts justice. So, what is there in this dialogue, between God and man that can help us to embrace the body that God loves?

Habakkuk's Move
When we meet Habakkuk in chapter 2, verse 1, he has just concluded his second complaint. We find him resolutely standing to hear from God what He will say to him. In verse 2, the LORD opens His mouth with instruction: "Write down this vision; clearly inscribe it on tablets so one may easily read it." (CSB). Habakkuk asks God expectantly, stands resolutely to hear from Him, and then does. The vision that he writes is the one born of God. He records with earthly materials the heavenly blueprint. The only kind of blueprint God will faithfully manifest.

Your Move!
1. Ask God to give you a vision for your physical wellness.
2. Ask with expectation that He will both hear and answer your cry for wisdom. (James 1:5).
3. Wait patiently and resolutely. That is, wait without frustration for His reply.
4. Write down clearly what He speaks to you.  Following the directive to clearly inscribe it, note particular scripture references that He brings to mind, draw and or cut and glue pictures or images that illustrate that for which He has given you reason to hope. Take it a step further and make S.M.A.R.T goals that can help you track your progress as you collaborate with God.

God's Wisdom
In verse 3 God explains why the vision is to be etched in stone. He says, "For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it testifies about the end and will not lie. Though it delays, wait for it, since it will certainly come and not be late." (CSB). Writing down the vision is a kind of crutch for standing by faith. When you are 3 weeks into working the new wellness plan God has given you and the expected outcomes seem way off on the horizon, there will be the vision mounted and made plain. (verse 4). You will see it and remember that this time you did not step out in your own wisdom, but the wisdom of God, in your pursuit of physical wellness. And this remembrance will make all the difference in the world. For God is faithful to watch over or perform His word. (Jeremiah 1:12). You will look at it and say to your soul, "Though it delays, wait for it, since it will certainly come and not be late." (CSB).
