When I consider my lineage, things that make me stand tall and proud come to mind. I think of the Godly women who witnessed unashamedly of the goodness of Jesus, devoted their lives to the service of others and poured their hearts into their children-they are still pouring. But, I also think of the burden of chronic illnesses, i.e. hypertension and diabetes. And the thought of the latter can sometimes cause my spine to curve a little-it takes off some height in my proud gait. I think about how all the beauty can be cut short by the reality of bodies chronically unwell. And there is pressure. With God's help the pressure is productive. It doesn't overwhelm. Instead, I am gifted a vision of wellness. And with that vision, He gives access to wisdom, so that I may inhabit the good and well future He has always had in mind.
The doctors say that I am pre-diabetic. I can read the report and think certain doom: another generation soon to be spoiled. But, Jesus. He's keeping ablaze a faith that as I go in the way of wisdom, He will breathe on every step and make me well. This month I share with you, what I am learning and working by His grace, so that I may be the first of a long line of women who never knows the burden of chronic illness. Pre means hope. Pre-diabetes does not have to be a lifelong sentence.
Pre-diabetes is the state in which blood sugar levels are high, but not high enough to warrant a diagnosis of diabetes. It is in this stage, that through purposeful and consistent intervention, diabetes can be slowed and or prevented.
Step 1: Find out if you are at high risk for pre-diabetes by taking the online assessment. Simply click on the icon below:

Step 2: Go and get tested! There are 3 Recommended Tests for Identifying Pre-Diabetes, which are the same as required for diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. (Click on the embedded links to see what the test is about):
