Hello My Dear Sisters,
Because of the help of Almighty God and a wonderful cancer support team, you have made it through your treatment! We know that the road to recovery is just beginning, and will not be easy. But God has not brought you this far to leave you. Rest assured He will never leave you, nor forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5). He will be for you, an ever present help in the time of trouble. (Psalm 46:1). Today we will focus on finding a community of support as you continue on your journey from cancer diagnosis to healing, wellness and wholeness. One of the greatest needs during recovery will be for solid emotional and psychosocial support. Emotional support Receiving and battling a life-threatening diagnosis can challenge the terrain of your soul. Waves of strong emotions can challenge your perception of self, others, things -and yes, God. And very rarely, does it seem that you have been adequately prepared for the battle at hand. Instead, what grows is an uncertainty about the things that can be shaken and those that cannot. The waves lead to a depth of neediness that cannot be waded independently. The good news is there is support for you. You do not need to go through this alone. You do not need to go through this alone. Find a local cancer support community using this search engine: https://www.cancersupportcommunity.org/FindLocation. If you are unable to locate a local support group, call the Cancer Support Helpline for more specialized service, to include the option of bringing a support group to your neighborhood: 1-888-793-9355. Psychosocial Support Services We are inextricably linked. In many ways, what happens to one happens to all. A cancer diagnosis is no exception, socially and emotionally impacting the lived experiences of those closest to you. Thankfully, mental health and related professionals are available to provide you and your tribe with the support they will need to healthily grieve and recover on account of the changes your battle has wrought. There are a variety of psychosocial supports available, ranging from individual, family and group counseling. Learn more about the types of psychosocial supports here.
