Raise Awareness. End Stigma. Point to Hope.
The mind is not the brain. The brain is not the mind. Instead, the mind is the intangible aspect of our being that is the seat of our intellect, emotions and will. It is the the wind whose effects are experienced in the brain. All that registers as observable data in the material world, first has its root in the unseen world of the mind or soul. The mind that is rested leads to brain health, whereas the mind that is disturbed--without a place to lay itself--degrades the health of the brain.
The Mind that is Rested
The mind that is rested has lain itself on the bosom of Christ Jesus. It trusts in and relies on Him. It is fixed on Him. All of its thoughts find their origin in He who is Spirit, Truth, Light and Life. And like their source, they inspire emotions, choices and even genetic expressions (through a process known as neurogenesis) that promote life. (Romans 8:5-6 and Mind-Body Connection | Dr. Caroline Leaf | HSC' 17). The mind that is rested is Spirit led: it is submitted to the spirit man, which is submitted to the Holy Spirit. Its fodder is love. (1 John 4:18).
The Mind that is Disturbed
The mind that is disturbed is one which wonders in the wilderness without drinking from the Fount of Living Water. It is fixed on the things that do not have their origin in God. And what is not of God is opposed to God. It wanders down a path that seems right, but in the end leads to death. (Proverbs 14:12). All of its thoughts inspire emotions, choices and genetic expressions that lead to denigration and death. (Romans 8:5-6 and Mind-Body Connection | Dr. Caroline Leaf | HSC' 17). It is the mind we have without the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit. It is the mind we have outside God. Its fodder is fear. (1 John 4:18).
The Mind that Can be Renewed
"For the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel has said this, 'In returning [to Me] and rest you shall be saved, In quietness and confident trust is your strength.'" (Isaiah 30: 15, AMP).
God is a good God. He is a merciful and gracious God. When we started on our own way. (Genesis 3). When we blazed a trail of skewed neural pathways through our brains--the genetic expressions of the poor choices we made as a consequence of the fearful thoughts we chose-- He sent out a call. He said, "'Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation].'" (Matthew 11: 28, AMP). He said, "In returning [to Me] and rest you shall be saved." (Isaiah 30: 15, AMP).
He sent the call because He had already prepared the road through the body of Jesus Christ. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ, makes our turning possible. He helps us, by His Spirit, to change our minds--to repent. He shifts our stubborn death gaze (on ourselves, the world and the things born outside of Him) to behold what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy. (Philippians 4:8). It is in Him that we have life, which is our light, and thereby overcome darkness. (John 1: 4 - 5).
Our turning is not a one time event. It is a continuous choice we must make; a continual help we must receive, so that we may enjoy the wisdom, peace and beauty of the mind of Jesus Christ. (Romans 12:1 - 2). His mind is light, and in it is no darkness. (1 John 1:5). When we submit our minds to His. When we let our souls be shepherded by Him, we put chase to the darkness that threatens to consume us in our strength. We put it to chase by the power of God. (2 Corinthians 10: 4 - 6).
