Read |Psalm 23|A Reflection on Psalm 23: 1 Who is the shepherd? It is the LORD. The LORD who made heaven and earth. Who is the shepherd? It is the LORD. The LORD who made all people. Who is the shepherd? It is the LORD. The LORD who parted the Red Sea. Who is the shepherd? It is the LORD. The LORD who drowned all my enemies. Who is the Shepherd? It is the LORD. The LORD who made manna rain from heaven. Who is the shepherd? It is the LORD. The LORD who sprang water from a rock. Who is the shepherd? It is the LORD. The LORD who covered us in a cloud. Who is the shepherd? It is the LORD. The LORD who guided us through the wild places. Who is the shepherd? It is the LORD. The LORD who proved mighty against our enemies. Who is the shepherd? It is the LORD. The LORD who proved faithful as we settled in the Land. Who is the shepherd? It is the LORD. The LORD who made true on all His promises to me. Who is the shepherd? It is the LORD. The LORD who pitied my poverty. Who is the shepherd? It is the LORD. The LORD impassioned on Calvary. Who is this shepherd? It is the LORD. The LORD poured out to make me rich. Who is this shepherd? It is the LORD. The LORD who has shown Himself to me. Who is this shepherd? It is the LORD. The LORD who loves me. Who is this shepherd? It is the LORD. The LORD who faithfully keeps His own. The LORD who perfectly keeps His own. I am His own. I am His own. I lack nothing. Psalm 23 is David's ode to our faithful God. In the opening verse David accomplishes two things: he identifies the LORD as his shepherd and positions himself as one under His care. (Psalm 23: 1, NIV). And when he has stated whose he is, he confidently concludes "I lack nothing". David is able to make this declaration because he knows God for himself. He has seen His action in his life--over and over again--with every action revealing another dimension of His person. David knows God is good. David knows God is all knowing. David knows that God is ever-present. David knows that God is both rich and generous. David knows that God is faithful in all His ways. David knows that he belongs to God. David knows that God lends His strength on behalf of His children. David has expectation that the fullness and completeness of God is tailor-made for every longing pertaining to him.
Beloved if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior, then you can have the same confidence that David had. On the day you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior, you became heiress to the many true and splendid promises of God. Amongst them was this: "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4: 19, NIV). As His daughter you can forever confidently declare, "I lack nothing." (Psalm 23: 1, NIV). Your Turn 1.Reflect on your relationship with God. How has God shown up in your life?
