Feast

Read |Psalm 23: 5 - 6|

We have just been expertly shepherded through the darkest of valleys. Now we emerge from the low place, one foot at a time, ascending the gentle slope of a hill. We leave in our wake the terror of doubt, condemnation and fear, to find the Lord who has led us up the hill, also before us, inviting us to sit and feast. There is a table, with an edenic spread. We have been ushered by the Lord who protects into the presence of the Lord who prepares. 

The view on high is splendid. We look on in amazement at the diverse terrain we have traversed. We see our enemies in their proper size--small--because we see our God as He is--great. His face casts light that glistens off the surface of the firmly planted table. We feast and grow large. Our enemies watch from afar and grow perplexed.

We catch in the corner of our eyes, the most stubborn of them scurrying up the hill. We watch as they gasp for air. Breathing on high is a supernatural feat. It is impossible to catch your breath without Him--and His back is turned towards them. Soon they fall under the weight of gravity back to the low place. (Psalm 23: 5).

He pours the oil of His presence over our heads. We are soaked. We smell like Him. What a sweet fragrance! Almost immediately we are made powerful and courageous--our hearts bursting with joy and moved by His faithful promise to love us eternally. (Psalm 23: 6).

Beloved, if today you find yourself in the valley, be encouraged. The valley is but one part of the journey. It ends well. He promised. Until you are seated in the high place, we invite you to envision yourself there with this week's devotional.
