Read | Psalm 139 and Matthew 7:6|Do you not yet know how precious you are to God? For generations, we women have struggled to embrace our self-worth because of lies about our identity, which have been trafficked throughout this broken world. False news that juxtaposes our delicate frame with that of a man’s robust one and concludes that we are therefore lesser. False news that distorts the goodness of Scripture in an attempt to explain away the injustice of crafting, enacting, promoting and overlooking laws, policies and practices that subdue half of humanity. There is a famine for truth. In the absence of truth, and due to the presence and promotion of lies, we’ve often found ourselves enlisted in a race to prove our worth. And in this race we’ve shown ourselves capable of much. Yet, we’ve also grown weary. The race has not been kind to us. The accolades we’ve received have not filled the void. How could they? Where there is a famine for truth, only God’s Word and Presence can satiate the hunger. I used to be in the race. I used to weary myself to prove my worth. I used to belittle myself and allow the perceptions of others to cause me great doubt about my significance. But, whenever these ugly thoughts surfaced in my psyche, my omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent God showed up and reminded me of the truth. He used His Word to cut through the darkness and highlight the truth that I am His creation - seen fully, known perfectly, made with care and intention and dearly loved. (Psalm 139). The news of Psalm 139, is only part of the story. The whole truth is that God created us in His image and likeness. So our status as fearfully and wonderfully made is connected to the fact that we bear His imprint. We are His image bearers! (Genesis 1: 26 - 28). And this makes us the most special of all that He has created. We have an unparalleled place in his Kingdom, alongside the rest of humanity. He has created us in Christ Jesus to be a whole new creation (without spot or blemish) for Himself and to enter into good works He has prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 1: 4 - 6 and 2:10). He has, in Christ, set us apart as holy. We are not common things. We are not things to be trampled. We are not things. We are His precious new creation, redeemed through great sacrifice. “Do not give that which is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, for they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.” (Matthew 7:6, AMP). Do not offer up yourself, Beloved, to those who cannot see you the way God does. Do not give yourself to those who count you, whom God has made holy, as unholy. If you do, they will trample you and tear you to pieces. They cannot care for you the way you deserve, because they cannot see you the way you are-an image bearer of the Most High God-holy. Beloved, I pray that God will continue to give you great revelation about who you are in Him. I pray that your eyes will be opened and renewed as they behold the One in whose image you have been made. I pray that as you behold Him, things will become clearer. I pray you will see His worth and uniqueness as God, at the same time that you see the imprint that is in you. I pray that you will see yourself as your Father does. I pray that you will come to the conviction that you are a holy thing, not to be trampled.
